Best Inca Trail Tour Operators for 2025/2026

Choosing an Inca Trail tour operator can be a giant headache. Which company is the best? Is the trek overpriced? Are the porters well paid or mistreated? Where and when and who and what and why… it’s not an easy decision.

To help you get started, I’ve done an extensive research compiled a list of Inca Trail companies that are well worth considering based on traveler surveys. And while I haven’t personally trekked to Machu Picchu with all of them (that would be kind of crazy), I do have first-hand experience with some. Operators are ranked on positive reputations, guides and support, safety, and overall experience.

The Best Inca Trail Tour Companies in Peru

The following companies are what are considered to be the best and most reliable operators for the Classic Inca Trail in 2025. All provide the classic 4-day/3-night Inca Trail trek unless otherwise stated. Most, if not all, of these companies also offer alternative treks and tours to Machu Picchu and other destinations in and around Cusco and the Sacred Valley.

Yapa Explorers

A newer operator but quickly becoming a favorite among travelers. Yapa Explorers limits groups to a maximum of eight people and focuses on authentic, locally-guided experiences.

They have some of the best ratings on TripAdvisor, with many reviews mentioning their excellent customer service and support, variety of fresh food, and good equipment.

Apart from the Classic 4 Day Inca Trail, they also offer the Short 2 Day Inca Trail for those who couldn’t find a spot for the classic trail.

Llama Path

Llama Path has been operating treks for more than 15 years and considered a reputable operator. A more premium option, but well-reviewed. Their Classic Inca Trail groups tend to fill up quickly, so booking well in advance is recommended.

They also offer a range of alternative treks like Salkantay and Lares for those seeking different routes to Machu Picchu.

Sam Travel Peru

Sam Travel Peru is another popular choice among visitors. They’re known for reliable service and competitive pricing.

Groups tend to be larger, but the service is consistent and recommended by several travel blogs and agencies.

Alpaca Expeditions

Alpaca Expeditions another long-established trekking company in Cusco. They have strong reviews across major platforms and a large team of guides and porters. heir size allows for frequent departures, which can be convenient for those with limited time.

However, larger group sizes are common, so the experience might feel a bit less personal compared to smaller operators.

Conde Travel

More than 10,000 customers, all highly praising the service provided.

Summary

All of the companies listed above offer reliable options with good reviews. For travelers looking for a more personal and authentic experience, Yapa Explorers stands out for its small groups, local guides, and attention to detail.

As for prices, the range of $700 to $800 range is perfectly reasonable, but you should be wary of any classic Inca Trail trek (4d/3n) offered at a significantly lower price (less than $600).

Once you pass the $800 mark, you’ll be entering the higher-end and luxury options. If you spend much more than $2,000 for your four-day trek, you should expect real luxury.
