Ecuador Hop: The Best Way to Travel in Ecuador?
Thinking about traveling in Ecuador on your trip to South America? Ecuador Hop is a brand new company that we’ve got on our radar. Sister companies Peru Hop and Bolivia Hop are already well-known throughout Latin America for their unique take on travel. Ecuador Hop aims to replicate that success in neighboring Ecuador. This new service will visit some absolutely incredible destinations like the Cotopaxi Volcano, Quilotoa Lake, Baños, Montañita and many other wonderful places.
What is Ecuador Hop?
Ecuador Hop is Ecuador’s first hop on hop off bus company, combining all the benefits of taking a guided tour with the freedom of traveling independently. Ecuador Hop takes you to all of the main cities and popular attractions, but also makes stops at lesser-known and off-the-beaten-track destinations to give you the chance to see the real Ecuador.
Your pass is valid for one year for the whole route, which leaves you the flexibility to stay longer in the places that you love, and skip the places that you aren’t as fond of. Hop off at a destination, stay as long as you want, then just hop back on and continue on to the next destination.
The Best Way to Travel in Ecuador
For us, the best part about the “hop on hop off” style of travel is the convenience. Buses pick you up directly from your hostel or hotel in Quito, meaning you don’t have to worry about getting up early and trying to direct a taxi to the bus station. You just get up and start moving to your next destination, which is perfect for independent travelers and alleviates any concerns about safety in unknown cities.
According to their website, all of Ecuador Hop’s guides are local Ecuadorians who are fluent in English, which is another added bonus–having a local nearby who can give you some tips about their home country, even if you don’t know Spanish.
For these reason, we are very excited to try out this new service. We have not had the chance to complete a route on Ecuador Hop yet, since they don’t officially begin service until February 2019. We do, however, have experience with their sister company here in Peru (see our review of Peru Hop here) so we’ve got some high expectations for this new company!
